Introducing the HumanFirst API

Building better applications for precision measures, digital health technologies and digital biomarkers

Today, we’re excited to announce the beta launch of the HumanFirst API. If you’d like to explore the code yourself, you can check out our API documentation or reach out to our solutions team for access. More interested in the process behind this API? Read on.

Here at HumanFirst, we offer a best-in-class catalog covering over 2,000 digital health technologies (DHTs), over 10,000 digital measures, and tens of thousands of pieces of evidence.

For the past few years, we’ve provided access to this data through our HumanFirst Atlas platform. We have learned from our customers about how they do planning and investigation and have learned that no two processes are exactly the same. To give our customers the flexibility they need, we are now offering our catalog as an API. HumanFirst engineering is API driven, and it is our greatest tool in helping us move fast — and so today we are enabling our customers to do the same. This launch is the first in a series of infrastructure products to support more precision measure and biomarker development.

Our beta HumanFirst API covers three components from our Atlas platform: technologies, vendors, and evidence.

Technologies: This part of the API covers all of the digital health technologies in the HumanFirst Atlas. This includes everything from physical information, such as form factor and wear location, to links to the associated manuals/developer documentation. Like all resources in the API, Technologies offers extensive searching/filtering capabilities to identify the DHTs that match all of your criteria.

Vendors: Vendors are the organizations that produce the digital health technologies catalogued in Atlas. You can use this API to explore all the technologies produced by a single vendor or gather metadata about the vendors themselves.

Evidence: Evidence is at the core of the HumanFirst product, and will serve as an important endpoint for anyone interacting with the API. All evidence is tagged with our measure ontology as well as the technologies used, relevant paper metadata, and links to the papers themselves (when available).

Today, the data available inside the HumanFirst Atlas platform is a powerful source for those building evidence-based programs, and we’re working hard to ensure that we have strong APIs that let you explore all of the rich data we’ve gathered, organized, and tagged. Over the next few months, we’ll be releasing follow-up posts showcasing some different uses for the API.

Until then, don’t hesitate to contact our solutions team to learn more about our API infrastructure, get your access keys, and start building. We're excited for you to join us in incorporating digital health technologies & digital biomarkers into clinical research, resulting in better, differentiated treatments that improve health outcomes for all humans. We can’t wait to see what you’ll create!
